The Fort Worth Vaqueros Soccer Club, established in 2013, has significantly influenced the soccer landscape in Fort Worth, Texas. Competing in the National Premier Soccer League’s (NPSL) Lone Star Conference, the Vaqueros have showcased competitive soccer and fostered community engagement and development.
Since their inaugural season in 2014, the Vaqueros have achieved notable milestones. In 2017, they clinched the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Championship, and in 2019, they secured the Lone Star Conference Championship, marking their prominence in the league.
Beyond their on-field accomplishments, the Vaqueros have made substantial contributions to the local soccer community. In 2018, they launched a free youth academy, challenging the traditional pay-to-play model prevalent in American soccer. This initiative provides talented young athletes with high-quality training without the financial burden, ensuring that soccer development is accessible to all, regardless of economic background.
The academy is led by Mark Snell, a former professional player renowned for his expertise in youth soccer development. Under his guidance, the academy focuses on nurturing technical skills, tactical understanding, and personal growth, aiming to develop well-rounded individuals both on and off the field.
For younger children aged 6 to 10, the Vaqueros offer the “School of Vaqueritos.” This program emphasizes foundational soccer skills in a fun and engaging environment, fostering a love for the game from an early age. The curriculum is designed by professional coaches, ensuring that each session has clear objectives tailored to the developmental needs of the participants.
To bridge the gap between youth programs and higher levels of competition, the Vaqueros established the “Center of Development.” This platform offers advanced training for players transitioning from foundational skills to more competitive play, preparing them for opportunities in semi-professional teams or college soccer. The program introduces tactical themes and provides clear pathways for player progression, ensuring continuous development.
In 2023, the Vaqueros expanded their commitment to community soccer by launching a comprehensive youth soccer club catering to boys and girls from U6 to U19. This initiative reflects their dedication to providing structured and competitive soccer opportunities for a broader age range, further solidifying their role in the local soccer ecosystem.
For adults, the Vaqueros offer various engagement opportunities, including tryouts for their semi-professional team. These tryouts are open to aspiring players, providing a platform to showcase talent and potentially join the team. Participants receive a Vaqueros T-shirt and a ticket voucher for future games, enhancing community involvement and support.
Through these initiatives, the Fort Worth Vaqueros Soccer Club has established itself as a cornerstone of soccer development in Fort Worth. Their commitment to accessible training, community engagement, and competitive excellence benefits both youth and adults, enriching the local soccer culture and providing pathways for athletic and personal growth.
