Gary W. Shipp, president and chief executive officer of First National Bank of Burleson, retired on April 30 after a 46-year career in banking.
Shipp began his banking career in 1967 with Continental National Bank in Fort Worth. He later helped open the National Bank of Texas at Fort Worth as cashier. From 1974 through 1990, he served in senior management positions with Fort Worth Bank and Trust. From the rank of teller to cashier to vice president, Shipp has had experience in opening new banks as well as serving in various positions in several other banks in the Fort Worth area.
Shipp and his wife, Dana, moved to her hometown of Burleson in 1991 when he was chosen as vice president and cashier at First National Bank of Burleson. In 2004, he was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer. Since 2007, Shipp has served as president and CEO of First National Bank of Burleson; he has been on the board of directors since 1993.
Throughout his time in Burleson, Shipp has been active in the community. He has been a board member for the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Tarrant County, YMCA of Tarrant County and Johnson County Economic Development. He completed the Leadership Fort Worth program and is a member of the Burleson Rotary Club, where he was president in 1998-1999, and has received recognition as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Shipp attended the University of North Texas in Denton and is a graduate of the Bank Administration Institute’s Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wis.
Shipp’s retirement plans include traveling and spending time with his family. He will continue to serve on the board of First National Bank of Burleson.

Kim Lemaux, deputy police chief for Arlington, has been appointed chief of the University of Texas at Arlington Police Department, effective July 1.
Lemaux has more than three decades of law enforcement experience and expertise in training, operations and event safety management.
A UT Arlington alumna, Lemaux earned her undergraduate degree in business management. She is currently working toward a master’s degree in security management through American Public University.
At UT Arlington, she will lead a department that includes 38 sworn officers, 56 guards, police communications and emergency management staff and oversee a $6.7 million annual budget.
UT Arlington President James D. Spaniolo called Lemaux’s law enforcement credentials impressive, noting her significant background in training, criminal analysis and strategic planning. Her extensive experience in community-based policing and collaborations with the Texas Rangers Baseball Club and the Dallas Cowboys, among other major organizations, made her the ideal candidate to lead the university’s police force, he said.
Lemaux began her law enforcement career as an Arlington police dispatcher in 1982. The following year, she became a patrol officer. By 1985, she was teaching future colleagues as a field training officer.
She was promoted to deputy chief in 2001. In recent years, she has supervised patrol divisions, investigative services and technical services. Her current responsibilities as the department’s senior command staff executive include leading an operational bureau of 121 staff members and an annual budget of $14 million.
At UT Arlington, Lemaux said she will work to provide a safe environment for all students, faculty and staff.
Her focus will include increasing campus security, maintaining excellence through the department’s ongoing accreditation efforts, professional development for the department and further developing the university’s emergency planning efforts.

Mark Morganfield has been named executive vice president, chief credit officer of Southwest Securities, FSB, the commercial banking subsidiary of SWS Group Inc. Morganfield joined the bank in 2011 as senior vice president, credit administration manager, and has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Previously, he was president and CEO of Credit Union Liquidity Services. He also has served as president of Peachtree Franchise Finance and managing director at ORIX Real Estate Capital Markets and AMRESCO Capital Corp. He also was in senior-level positions with Bank of America and RepublicBank in Dallas. Morganfield earned a bachelor’s degree in business and economics from Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and an MBA in finance and accounting from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
Renette Curtis has joined First National Bank of Burleson as assistant vice president of operations. With more than 27 years in banking, she has worked in all areas of operations, including teller operations, new accounts and audit and compliance. Nancy Patterson has joined FNBB as operations officer in the Wilshire branch. She began her career in banking in 1995 as a teller and received several promotions, most recently working as a bank officer. She came to FNBB in April.

Dick Price of the Price Law Firm was recently elected the first chairman of the Collaborative Law Section of the Tarrant County Bar Association. Price is an attorney and a mediator and is board-certified as a specialist in family law. He frequently speaks for the State Bar of Texas and the Collaborative Law Institute of Texas as well as various county bar associations and sections. He also has served as a temporary associate judge for each of the family courts in Tarrant County.
The board of First National Bank of Burleson promoted four senior officers, including James (Jim) H. Easter Jr. to president and chief executive officer; Norma J. Maxwell to executive vice president and chief operating officer, Patsy Dumas to senior vice president; and Jerry Payne to senior vice president. Easter started his banking career 36 years ago in Dallas. He completed the executive management training program through Mercantile Bank in Dallas and later was president of First National Bank of Glen Rose. He joined FNBB in 1999 as vice president, was promoted to senior vice president in 2002 and was elected to the board in 2008. In 2008, he was promoted to executive vice president. He will continue to be the bank’s senior lender. Maxwell, a 27-year banking veteran, joined FNBB as vice president of operations in 2003, was promoted to vice president/cashier in 2004 and was elected to the board in 2008. Maxwell is a 1995 TBA Compliance School graduate and also earned a banking degree from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2009. She will continue to oversee banking operations. Dumas has 48 years in banking, having started as a file clerk at the former F&M State Bank. She later became a loan officer and branch president at the former First State Bank of Rio Vista. Dumas joined FNBB in 1999 as vice president, providing personal and business loans, and joined the board in 2008. She is an active member and former chairman of the Burleson Area Chamber of Commerce. She was named Burleson Citizen of the Year in 1990 and was honored by the city of Burleson in 2007 with the Byron Black Character Award. In addition to being a charter member in the Chisholm Trail 100 Club, she is also a charter member of the Burleson City of Character Council and serves on the board for United Cooperative Services. Dumas will continue to be a personal and commercial lender. Payne joined FNBB in 2008 as vice president in commercial/real estate lending. With more than 30 years in the banking industry, he has served as senior vice president and branch manager, commercial lender, compliance officer, assistant cashier and teller operations manager and was an active board member and later president of the American Institute of Banking in Fort Worth. Payne has a bachelor’s degree from Carson Newman College and an MBA from Le Tourneau University. He has received additional training through the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking, Texas Bankers’ Association Compliance School, the School for Banking Administration and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he studied theology and counseling. Payne is president of the Burleson Lions Club and is a founding member, board member and past president of the Chisholm Trail 100 Club. He also has served numerous organizations, including Fort Worth’s City Plan Commission, Northside Inter-Church Agency, Neighborhood Housing Association and the North Fort Worth Business Association. He recently received the Masonic Lodge’s Community Builder Award for his contributions to Burleson. Payne will continue to manage FNBB’s Wilshire branch.

Michael W. McBride has assumed the role of president in addition to his position as chief operating officer of Westwood Contractors Inc. Prior to joining Westwood in July 1994, McBride had construction management positions at Payless Shoe Source and Zale Corp. At Westwood, he has had various key management roles including director of operations, vice president of construction and chief operating officer. He has more than 30 years of construction experience and is a graduate of Texas Lutheran College with a bachelor’s degree in management and marketing.
Fort Worth native Elizabeth Corbell is the new director of business development at INTERPRISE, a Dallas-Fort Worth commercial design and space planning firm. Corbell will develop, coordinate and implement new business strategies for increasing market position. Corbell was formerly a property manager for CapHarbor Property Management LLIC/TIC. She has more than 20 years of marketing and customer relations experience. Prior to CapHarbor, she had a 16-year career with Crescent Real Estate Equities LLC, where she developed and implemented the national tenant relations program; oversaw the firm’s marketing strategy for the office portfolio and brand recognition; and received the Crescent Real Estate Equities CEO Award. She also worked at Rainwater Inc., Woodbine Management Co. and Bass Brothers Enterprises Inc. Corbell received a bachelor’s degree interior design from the University of North Texas.

Susan K. Medina, principal of SKM Communication Strategies LLC (SKM), was named the 2013 Business Woman of the Year by the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Medina has more than 20 years of experience in public relations and strategic communication. She established SKM in Houston in 2001 and moved the firm to Fort Worth in 2004. Other honorees during the chamber’s 40th anniversary gala were Michelle Coronado, Ambassador of the Year; Deanna Garcia, Chamber Champion; Joseph Landeros, Government Advocate of the Year; Raquel Santiago, Corporate Advocate of the Year; Atmos Energy, Corporation of the Year; Jeff Fegan, Chairman’s Choice Award; and Ramiro Ramirez, Business Man of the Year.
University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing professors Maxine Adegbola and Phyllis Adams will receive the Association of Black Nursing Faculty Lifetime Achievement in Education and Research Award at the organization’s 26th Annual Meeting and Scientific Conference in June. Adegbola has been an assistant professor at UT-Arlington since 2008. Her research areas include sickle cell disease, chronic pain, genomics and health disparities. Adams is a clinical associate professor. She came to UT-Arlington in 1995 and is director of the UT-Arlington Family Nurse Practitioner program. Her research interests include sickle cell, HIV and stress management.
Sue Sebazco, infection prevention director for Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital since 1983, received the Distinguished Service Award, presented annually by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology to an APIC member for outstanding contributions in a volunteer capacity at the national level. She was APIC’s president in 2005, and was chairman of the governmental affairs committee (1999-2001), public policy committee (2007) and program committee (1997). Sebazco was appointed last year to serve on the Health Care Associated Infections/Preventable Adverse Events Advisory Panel for the state of Texas. Sebazco will be recognized in June during APIC’s annual conference in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Don Clampitt, president and CEO of Dallas-based Clampitt Paper, has won the first AIME Award (Advertising Innovation and Marketing Excellence). A Dallas native, Clampitt began his 32-year career at Clampitt Paper, the company his father founded in 1941. He has been president/CEO for 13 years. He serves on numerous boards, including the Baylor Health Care System Foundation, Dallas Arboretum Advisory Council and the National Paper Trade Association, where he was president. In 2012, he was inducted into the University of New Mexico Hall of Fame.
Fort Worth business owner and trainer Abundio Munoz will be inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame in California in June. Munoz owns Abundio’s Studio, which offers personal training and private lessons, children’s American Taekwondo, cardio kickboxing, boxing, D method Pilates, D barre classes and, soon, D bounce, Fort Worth’s first trampoline class.

In honor of RFD-TV’s channel launch in the Fort Worth area, the Fort Worth City Council proclaimed May 16 “RFD-TV Day in Fort Worth.” RFD-TV and RFD-HD are now available for Charter customers in Fort Worth and the surrounding North Texas region. RFD-TV started nearly two decades ago in the Fort Worth Stockyards.
J. David Cason is the new vice president of Holt Lunsford Commercial’s Fort Worth office. Cason has 30 years of commercial real estate experience and has represented local and institutional owners including Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo Real Estate, Harvard Trusts, Traveler’s, Klabzuba Family Interest and the Thompson Family Properties. Cason has a bachelor of business administration degree from Texas Tech University.
