Frenzel named top doc
Dr. Hoyt Frenzel, emergency medicine physician and medical director of Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital’s emergency department, recently received the Physician of the Year award during the 17th annual Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council luncheon.
“Dr. Frenzel has played an integral role in Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital’s numerous achievements to advance and promote quality health care and patient satisfaction,” said Kirk King, president of Texas Health Arlington Memorial. “His actions speak volumes and demonstrate his commitment to helping those in need, whether they are patients in our hospital or the underprivileged living in our communities.”
Frenzel has served on the hospital’s medical staff since 2001 and became the emergency department’s medical director in 2007. Under his direction, the hospital became one of the first in the world to be designated as an Acute Heart Failure Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care in 2009. Frenzel recently aided the hospital with its most recent recognition by the society – full Cycle IV Chest Pain accreditation. As of last year, fewer than 100 hospitals across the country had earned the title.
During 2006, Frenzel was a key champion in Texas Health Arlington Memorial’s largest fundraising effort to expand the emergency department; as a result, the hospital raised $2.6 million. Opening in 2010, the expansion nearly doubled the size of the department and allowed for a new fast-track area, a larger waiting area and a new triage area.
Growing up in Arlington, Frenzel graduated from Lamar High School before earning his bachelor’s degree in biology and chemistry from the University of North Texas. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Frenzel volunteers at Mission Arlington’s Medical Clinic and through his “Frenzel Sisters Toy Drive” he serves children in the Arlington, Colleyville and Grapevine areas. Twice each year, Frenzel and his three young daughters host the toy drive and distribute the donations through GRACE Outreach and Santa Claus projects.
“Winning this award validates the reason I went into medicine,” Frenzel said. “It reminds me of how fortunate I am to have a skill set that I can use to help others in need.”

Think Finance, a company that develops online financial products that bridge the gap between payday loans and credit cards, has named Marcella Butler as its chief human resources officer. Butler joins Think Finance from Google, where she spent five years in administrative roles across corporate development, finance and people operations. Prior to that, she was the chief operating officer and chief compliance officer for Pershing Square Capital Management and chief administration officer for Sanford Bernstein LLC. She also has had positions with Egon Zehner International, McKinsey & Co. and Morgan Stanley & Co. Inc. Butler graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where she was a Morehead scholar, and earned a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government.

The Community Foundation of North Texas has elected four new members to its board of directors: Cynthia Adams, Liz Fleischer, Ralph Heath and Alfred Saenz. Adams is president of Concorde Asset Group Inc. and Martin Land and Investment Inc.. She has been involved in real estate operations across the United States for 25 years. She is a member of several professional and philanthropic associations and is a former board member of Baylor All Saints Health Foundation. Fleischer is an active community volunteer who serves on the board of Jewel Charity Ball. She previously served as president of the Junior League of Fort Worth and on the board of the Van Cliburn Foundation. Fleischer has experience in economic consulting services and project leadership; she also managed the United Parcel Service’s (UPS) marketing and advertising for multiple Olympic Games throughout UPS regions worldwide. Heath, a U.S. Army veteran, is the former president/CEO of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. and has been a leader in the growth of its international business. He serves the M.J. Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University as a member of the International Board of Visitors and is also a member of the board serving the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. Saenz, also a veteran of the U.S. Army, is the president/CEO of Multatech. An active community leader and supporter of local nonprofits, he is a board member of multiple companies and will be president of the Multicultural Alliance in 2013. The new board members join 15 others on the foundation’s board of directors. Current board members approved for leadership positions are: Phil McCrury, chairman; Chris Huckabee, vice-chairman; Elaine Petrus, vice president of grants; Bill Dismuke, corporate secretary; and Larry Autrey, treasurer.
U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey (D-Fort Worth) announced the formation of a judicial screening committee to highlight possible nominees to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. With Judge Terry R. Means assuming a senior status role, the federal court will have a vacancy in the coming months. The judicial screening committee will be led by Terri Moore, who will serve as committee chairman, and will include a diverse group of individuals from across the Metroplex: Sue Baird, Lars Berg, Art Brender, Ed Cañas, David Chappell, Dwain Dent, Bobbie Edmonds, Jesse Gaines, Albon Head, Mike Heiskell, Allan Howeth, Marla Dena Lee, Brant Martin, J.R. Molina, Albert Perez, Jason Smith, Jason Stephens, Jon Suder, Rod Tanner, Juan Tijerina, Michael Ware, Roderick White and Tom Williams.
The recent annual meeting of the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show’s membership saw the election of officers, four new executive committee members and seven new directors and the elevation of five honorary vice presidents. Newly elected executive committee members include: Matt Carter, Debra Johnson Head, Robert H. Merrill and Philip C. Williamson. New directors include: Jeff Conner, Josh Harbuck, Brian Luig, Bill Mobly, Gordon Roberts, Rosario Villalpando and Adam Waldeck. Honorary vice president is John B. Collier IV, who was elected to the board in 1987, L. O. Brightbill III, John Earl Seelig, Vernell Sturns and Frank P. Talley Jr., all of whom were elected to the board in 1988. All other directors and officers were re-elected, including Bradford S. Barnes, president and general manager; Edward P. Bass, chairman; Charlie Geren, vice president; Charlie Moncrief, secretary; Randy Rogers, treasurer; and W. R. “Bob” Watt Jr., president emeritus.
Vickie Daniel, director of human resources at Cantey Hanger, was recently named president-elect of the Fort Worth Chapter Association of Legal Administrators.
Engineering & Consruction
Fort Worth-based Speed Fab-Crete, a design-build general contracting firm, appointed Randy Landers as its director of business development. In this role, Landers is responsible for leading and overseeing the development of business opportunities, spearheading and implementing client and sales expansion strategies for new markets, and expanding the firm’s existing construction services portfolio. Landers has more than 30 years of industry experience. Prior to joining Speed Fab-Crete, he was the portfolio manager/architect of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the largest investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security. In this role, Landers was responsible for planning, design and construction of new real estate assets, lease negotiations, portfolio analysis, facilities condition assessments, and asset pricing and valuation within a five-state area. Landers has also served as group manager of the design/build practice for a large national engineering/architecture firm, was the national manager of design and real estate development for a Fortune 100 national LTL trucking company, and a senior project manager for a national architecture firm specializing in retail development and transportation projects. Landers was in the first class to receive the Design-Build Institute of America’s designated professional certification. He is also certified as a project management professional by the Project Management Institute, an international organization that establishes project management standards and provides the globally recognized PMP credentials that certify project management expertise. A native Texan, Landers received a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Honors & Awards
George Ferguson, vice president at Frank Bailey Grain Co. Inc., received this year’s Texas Grain & Feed Association’s Lone Star Award for his contributions to the grain and feed industry. Ferguson’s expertise in finance and many hours of volunteering helped form the Lone Star Agribusiness Association, which assists with workers compensation insurance. Ferguson has participated in numerous committees, focus groups and association events. He is the only person in the history of TGFA to serve two terms as chairman of the board: 1999-2000 and 2010-11. He is the third Lone Star Award recipient at Frank Bailey Grain Co. Inc. Frank A. Bailey Jr. received the award in 1986 and Frank A. Bailey III in 1991.
The Arlington Chamber of Commerce has named Bob Moore Construction Inc. and Girls Inc. of Tarrant County as recipients of the 2013 Small Business of the Year Awards. The awards will be presented at the “Spirit of America: 2013 Salute to Small Business” luncheon on May 23 at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel.
Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains recently honored this year’s Women of Distinction during a luncheon May 2 at Ridglea Country Club in Fort Worth. The Discover Award went to Dr. Katie Cardarelli, associate professor of epidemiology at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. The Connect Award was presented to Ann Rice, United Way of Tarrant County executive vice president and chief operating officer, and Tonya Veasey, president of Open Channels Group. The Take Action Award went to Jane Moore, professor of math, computer science and physics at Texas Wesleyan University. Proceeds from the event help provide the Girl Scout leadership experience to Tarrant County area girls.

Fort Worth-based marketing/public relations firm J.O. received eight awards at the second annual Public Relations Society of America Worthy awards ceremony. The awards recognize the best regional communications strategies. J.O. won the following awards: Programs-Public Service, Worthy award for Susan G. The Parenting Center won the 2013 Best Practices Award from the Texas Association for Parent Educators (TAPE) at the 20th Annual International Conference on Parenting Education and Parenting. The agency was selected because of its success in providing parents with knowledge, skills and social-emotional support. TAPE is a part of the University of North Texas Parenting Education Center.
The Portal to Texas History, administered by the University of North Texas Libraries, has received the Wayne Williams Library Project of the Year Award from the Texas Library Association. The award, the only cash award presented by the association, recognizes a project that exemplifies the highest levels of achievement, professional standards and inspiration to other libraries. The portal was created in 2002 by the UNT Libraries’ Digital Projects Unit to provide online access to books, photographs, artifacts, maps, newspapers, letters and other historic materials from more than 200 archives, historical societies, small and large libraries, museums and private collections from across Texas. The portal also includes a Resources for Educators section, which provides history lessons for elementary and middle school students. In 2008, the portal was chosen as one of the best online resources for education in the humanities by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Additionally, UNT Libraries received two TLA PR Branding Iron Awards, including the “Best of Show” distinction for 2013 based on its nine submissions to the contest, and the top awards for its Identity Guide and for its Liaisons In the Stacks posters, which promote the libraries’ campaign to connect students with librarians who specialize in the students’ field of study.
John M. Gonzales recently joined Basecom Inc. as director of business development. Gonzales will assist in the growth of new project builds, focusing on the private sector, oversee the marketing and branding areas, and enhance community and public relations for the company. He most recently spent 10 years at Texas Wesleyan University as community outreach coordinator, communications coordinator/graphic designer, and in various administrative capacities. He is a board member with Leadership Fort Worth and a committee member with the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as well as a volunteer with various school and youth sports programs. Gonzales has a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Texas Wesleyan.
Aubrey Allen joined the Denitech team in August and was recently promoted to handling the partnerships in the downtown Fort Worth area. Denitech, a Xerox company, specializes in helping organizations gain a better understanding of their current document management environment and co-authors ways to improve and control these processes. Allen received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and is involved with local charities.
