Sarah Jaffe among performers set for Kimbell Art Museum festivalMay 20, 2014
The Kimbell Art Museum has announced “Matsuri: A Samurai Celebration,” a free, all-ages festival set from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday June 21.
Featured attractions include musical performances by singer-songwriter Sarah Jaffe and Dallas indie rock band Air Review, as well as demonstrations, art activities and films.
Matsuri, or "festival" in Japanese, is inspired by the museum's current exhibition, “Samurai: Armor from the Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Collection.”
The event will kick off with the traditional processional of the mikoshi shrine donated to Fort Worth by its sister city Nagaoka, Japan. Daytime activities include face painting, fan making, martial arts demonstrations, tai chi instruction, anime family films and a "selfie" photo booth. Evening attendees can expect outdoor musical performances, provided in partnership with KXT 91.7 FM and taiko drummers. All activities, including concert admission, are free and open to the public. Blankets are encouraged.
A complete schedule, parking details and travel options will be available online beginning May 31 at www.kimbellart.org
