Trinity River Vision board adopts Panther Island
A. Lee Graham

Reporter

The Trinity River Vision Authority board has approved renaming the Trinity Uptown district to Panther Island.

Prompting the name change was a communitywide urge to brand the new district with an identity that was uniquely Fort Worth, according to a TRVA news release.

“I support the name change,” said board member Bob Riley. “I think Panther Island is a unique destination and uptown is more of a generic term.”

Trinity River Vision Authority is charged with implementing the public infrastructure project that provides flood protection and fosters the development of Panther Island, expecting to provide a pedestrian-oriented, urban waterfront neighborhood in Fort Worth. Panther Island is expected to be home to 10,000 mixed-income homes, 16,000 permanent jobs and is estimated to boost the Tarrant County economy by $1.6 billion per year.
