Whole Foods to open first Fort Worth store at Waterside

It’s Waterside.
Whole Foods Market will open its first Fort Worth store in spring 2016 at Waterside, the 63-acre master planned mixed-use development to be built on the site of the former Lockheed Martin Recreation Association.


Trademark Property Co., developer of the site made the announcement today.
“We are thrilled to bring Whole Foods Market to Fort Worth,” said Trademark CEO Terry Montesi. “There is no retailer more in demand in our hometown than Whole Foods Market and it’s the perfect fit for our development. Waterside, the first place of its kind, will take the retail/mixed-use experience to a new level.”
The 45,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market, will like other of the Austin-based chain’s food stores, offer a large selection of natural and organic products. It will also have features unique to Waterside and tailored to the local community, including a large outdoor seating area.

Trademark and its partners envision a medium-density mix of shops, restaurants, apartments and townhomes, and offices for Waterside. One planned cluster called The Grove includes cafes, a children’s play area, fountains, bocce courts, fire pits, and a yet-to-be-named grocery store centered around and under a grove of old trees the developers are saving, Montesi said in an earlier interview. The partners would build structures for shade to augment what’s already provided by the trees, he said.


“It’ll be a highly active public space, around which there’ll be multifamily and office,” Montesi said.


Montesi said in the earlier Business Press story that he’s formed a "Conscious Capitalism" rapport with Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods, who argues that business driven by a higher purpose than making money leads to more prosperity for all stakeholders.
The Waterside partners are incorporating numerous elements of what they call “Conscious Place” into their development, Montesi said.

Pre-leasing continues with construction scheduled to begin in the fall, and Phase I scheduled to open fall of 2015.

Waterside is Trademark’s first “Conscious Place” project, according to the Fort Worth-based developer. 

“We are excited to open a Fort Worth store and to be a part of the 'Conscious Place' collaboration with Trademark,” said Mark Dixon, president/southwest region of Whole Foods Market. “The development aligns with our core values and we look forward to being part of the growth and success of the area.”

Whole Foods has a location in Arlington and is opening a location in Colleyville this summer.
