Transit hub and urban plaza to open April 24

By A. Lee Graham
A planned transit-oriented urban village in southeast Fort Worth is expected to gain momentum with the dedication and opening of the area’s first bus transit center.
Sierra Vista Transit Plaza is set to open at 10 a.m. Wednesday April 24 on the southwest corner of East Berry Street and Riverside Drive.
“The Sierra Vista Transit Plaza will provide a safe, off-street transfer and boarding area for riders in an aesthetically pleasing setting with bright lighting, shelters, seating, and a large route map to other transit connections throughout Fort Worth,” said Dick Ruddell, president of the Fort Worth Transportation Authority, or The T, commenting in a news release.
The plaza will serve Route 3, which includes South Riverside Drive and Tarrant County College South Campus; Route 5, which includes Wichita Street and Glen Garden; Route 8, which includes Riverside Drive and Evans Avenue, and Route 24, Berry Street.
As part of the opening ceremony, The T will demonstrate a bus run inside the plaza. The T’s buses will begin picking up and dropping off riders at Sierra Vista Transit Plaza on Thursday April 25.
Hosting the bus plaza’s opening will be Andre McEwing, a longtime advocate of redevelopment in southeast Fort Worth, director of Southeast Fort Worth Inc., and secretary of The T board. He will be joined by other T board members and Ruddell.
