The next TCU dining hall is closer to serving hungry students after securing two newly approved variances.
 
By 8-0 approval, the Fort Worth Commercial Board of Adjustment on Dec. 18 waived rules stipulating building height and setback requirements.
 
“The university, over the last several years, has been making a number of changes throughout the campus, and part of that is the redevelopment of the Worth Hills area,” said Barry Hudson, whose Dunaway Associates LP of Fort Worth is designing the Texas Christian University dining hall and multipurpose room at 3501 Bellaire Drive North, just north of where Stadium Drive veers east into West Berry Street.
 
The unanimous board vote allows the structure to stand 45 feet tall, 10 feet higher than allowed in such community facilities districts. The board vote also allows the building to encroach about 20 feet into the required 20-foot projected front yard setback.
 
When complete in January 2015, the two-story structure will span 39,200 square feet and feature multiple dining venues, student lounges and office space, among other amenities.
