'Pudge', 7 other Texas athletes in hall of fame

 

WACO, Texas (AP) — Olympic champion Sanya Richards-Ross is among eight athletes selected for induction into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in February.

The Jamaican native, who attended the University of Texas at Austin, won Olympic gold medals in the 4×400 meters relay in 2004, 2008 and 2012. She won individual gold in the 400 meters in 2012 and bronze in 2008.

The other inductees announced Tuesday are Houston native and former Buffalo Bills running back Thurman Thomas; former Baylor and Houston Oilers quarterback Don Trull; former Texas Rangers catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez; former University of Texas and Detroit Lions defensive tackle Doug English; former UNLV and NBA All-Star Larry Johnson from Tyler; former Texas A&M and Dallas Cowboys linebacker Dat Nguyen; and former Texas A&M and NFL offensive tackle Charlie Kruger.
