Mallick Tower without power for at least two days

Mallick Tower remains in the dark as the Fort Worth office building struggles to regain power after an overnight power outage.

Triggering the late Sunday night outage was a broken water line outside the Summit Avenue structure, according to Dee Knight, property manager for the 10-story building on the western edge of downtown overlooking the Trinity River. The Fort Worth Business Press is among its 60 tenants.

Water flooded the electric equipment in the building’s basement, Knight said.

“We’re working round the clock to get power restored,” said Knight, who said power would be off for at least Monday and Tuesday.

As of noon Monday, building management was seeking a company to clean up the mess and fix the problem. The 60 tenants accustomed to working in the 90,000-square-foot building should be prepared to work elsewhere possibly for the rest of the week, as no repair timeline has been determined.

No other buildings in the area appeared affected, according to cursory observations of the area. 

Mallick Tower is no stranger to challenges. On March 28, 2000, it was among several buildings that took a direct hit when a tornado tore through the area.

The tower, managed by Holt Lunsford Commercial, is almost 100 percent leased, according to Gisela Stern Balsley, marketing manager for Holt Lunsford Commercail’s leasing department.
