Police Chief Halstead to serve as grand marshal for Parade of Lights

Fort Worth Police Chief Jeff Halstead has been confirmed as grand marshal for the 31st annual Chesapeake Energy Parade of Lights on Thanksgiving Day.
 
The annual event, set for downtown on Friday Nov. 29, will feature more than 100 illuminated entries, 500,000 lights and the Sundance Square Christmas tree.
 
What’s become an annual tradition begn in 1983 to help Fort Worth celebrate family and togetherness in a spirited way. This year’s theme is “Our Christmas Traditions!” The parade begins at 6 p.m.
 
This year, the parade route will extend from the corner of Belknap and Throckmorton streets, east on Belknap to Commerce, then south on Commerce to Ninth Street. From there, it will run west on Ninth Street to Houston Street, and finally north on Houston Street to Weatherford Street.
 
After 4 p.m. on the day of the parade, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T) will provide free bus service along any of its regular routes. Spur 280 off of Interstate 35 will close at 4:30 p.m., and Henderson Street will close at White Settlement and at Fifth Street at 5:30 p.m.
