UT Arlington returns to normal after closureJune 19, 2013
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The University of Texas at Arlington has resumed normal operations after closing for several hours following an apparent bogus call about a gunman.
The school returned to regular operations around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday after an emergency alert advisory indicated the "threat has passed."
UTA spokeswoman Kristin Sullivan says police earlier Wednesday received a call from a woman saying a man with a gun was traveling to the school. Sullivan says no such person was spotted on campus but classes and other summer events were canceled as a precaution.
Dallas police detained the man, a UTA student, at his apartment. Police say he will be given a mental evaluation.
Sullivan says several thousand people typically would be on campus for summer classes, camps and other activities.
