Arlington Mayor Pro Tem Kathryn Wilemon has been named chairwoman of the Regional Transportation Council.
In her newly announced position, Wilemon will lead the North Central Texas Council of Governments' transportation policymaking body for the next year.
She succeeds Denton Mayor Pro Tem Pete Kamp. Wilemon served as vice chairwoman during the past year and as secretary the previous year.
Named the council's new vice chairman is Dallas County Commissioner Mike Cantrell, who has served as secretary in 2012-13. Meanwhile, Parker County Judge Mark Riley has been elected secretary.

The North Central Council of Governments assists local governments in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. It serves a 16-county region of North Central Texas, centered on Fort Worth and Dallas. Among its 240 member governments are 16 counties, 170 cities, 24 school districts, and 30 special districts.
